How chemicals in food affect the human body

Our health mainly depends on the quantity and quality of the food we eat. Chemicals present in food are usually harmless, like nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, etc.  However, there are some that may have toxicological properties. A lot of the food we eat undergo processing, packaging and transportation and storage so there is a possibility of chemical contamination at these stages.

Cups, bottles, plates and other such containers that are used to improve food handling and transport contain plastic elements that may move into the food. Other chemicals that are used to fight diseases in animals or crops may be harmful to us.

More than 3600 chemicals leach into food during the manufacturing process and some of these have proven to be harmful for our health. These chemicals may cause cancer, genetic mutations, endocrine and reproductive issues and other health problems.

Repeated exposure to chemical contaminants in food due to long term exposure can cause liver cancer. Single exposure to such contaminants can cause gastrointestinal illnesses.

It is important that we are mindful of what we eat. Too much of anything is bad for us. We must especially be cautious when it comes to processed food as it affects our health.
